San Diego REP is currently seeking:

Casting Director & Artistic Associate    

Reports to:   Artistic Director

Position is available as of November 7, 2016

Full time salaried position with benefits and two weeks of paid vacation per year. In addition, there are ten (10) paid holidays per year.

The Casting Director & Artistic Associate is responsible for casting all artistic projects at San Diego REP (this currently includes a six show season plus readings, workshops and other special events ) as well as providing administrative and creative support to San Diego Repertory Theatreís Artistic department. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: planning the casting seasonal calendar and scheduling auditions; negotiating actor contracts; on-going participation in season planning including reading and reporting on scripts; hosting actor talkbacks; liaison between San Diego Rep and our educational and other artistic partners; artistic outreach to local theatres, schools and colleges; creating title pages and collecting artist bios for each show program as well as creating a portion of the seasonís artistic pages (split with Literary Manager);  creating rehearsal calendars, contact sheets and other rehearsal planning documents, and other projects as assigned. The Casting Director & Artistic Associate will be a spokesperson for San Diego REP and The REPís Artistic Department.

Education Requirements:
Industry related experience and Associates degree required; Bachelorís degree preferred.

Details of Position
Administrative Support
Plan, organize, and manage the integrated administrative activities of a multifaceted artistic department ensuring compliance with San Diego Repís mission and values as well as AEA, SDC, and USA policies and procedures.  Oversee all aspects of financial affairs and administration of the department.  Operate as a key member of the artistic team and participate in season planning. Facilitate and take notes during artistic staff meetings. Participate in coordinating an all staff meeting once a month. Coordinate production design meetings as needed.

Artistic Outreach
Maintain and build upon on-going efforts to outreach to local schools and colleges by providing presentations on casting, working in theatre, etc. Act as the principal day-to-day artistic liaison with other theatrical departments and artists on behalf of the artistic department.  Host an actor talkback for each production in our regular surround event programming.  Regularly attend performances at other theatres in San Diego and Los Angeles.

Create character breakdowns. Solicit submissions from San Diego and Los Angeles agents and actors, and when needed from local schools. Solicit submissions from Backstage West, AEA, Breakdown Services and Actorís Alliance. Maintain and cultivate relationships with agents and artists. Schedule audition spaces and hire accompanists. Screen actor auditions. Schedule callbacks for directors. Create and distribute sides. Serve as a reader at callbacks. Make offers to actors, negotiate fees, schedules, AEA needs, agent commissions, and billing.  Create and track contract worksheets for Production/Company management. Create rehearsal schedules. Oversee audition budget. Work with other departments on casting details. Work with the marketing department for program needs: title pages, artist bios, and artistic pages. 

Line producer for readings, workshops and special events. This may also include producing one show per year in a REP season.  Coordinate and taking lead on meetings with director, designers and key members of the creative team. Generate meeting schedules and ensure that designs deadlines are met. Effectively communicate event needs and expectations to the appropriate departments within The REP.  Ensure that all events are consistent with the REPís mission and standard of quality. 

Artistic liaison and program coordinator for educational partnerships such as the Xchange Xperience an educational partnership project. This project includes: coordinating informational assemblies, workshops in the classroom prior to auditions, auditions, post-audition feedback seminar, parent meeting, dance workshops student cast members prior to rehearsals, and 3 professional workshops throughout the year. During the school year host and facilitate interns from performing arts high schools, colleges and universities. Host student matinees throughout the season, working with the development department, and host audience talkbacks following the student matinee performances.
